BIO
Make Every Step Count
My name is Dana Punzo, and I am filled-to-the-brim with everything I am about to announce. The Nia Technique has given my body a true home. I am inviting you to this special, comfortable place to help you experience what I have gained in recent years by practicing the Nia Technique. I have been interested in movement and dance my whole life and have received both White and Blue belts in Nia Technique, which represent basic and advanced levels of teaching skills. I am certified to teach Nia Free Dance, as well. At present, I am also licensed as a Sacred Livelihood Teacher in Nia Technique. I carry additional certifications in Nia free dance and Ageless Grace, and I strive to create a comfortable environment for creative expression in my classes. Additionally, I received a certificate of completion for a 200-hour yoga instruction course in 2023 and for a 30-hour Yoga for Athletes class in July 2024. I am presently acquiring further Nia Technique training to enhance my teaching skills, and I'm excited to continue to share everything I learn!

NIA
Dance the Body's Way
This is the key that unlocks our minds, bodies, and spirits to encompass freedom within, which creates a ripple effect throughout our bodies and expands positive energy creating true freedom in our Life Force both inside and out!
Nia Technique was developed by Debbie and Carlos Rosa over 35 years ago. Their journey led them to create a fusion of martial arts: Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi, and Aikido. They added to the mix Jazz, Modern Dance, and Isadora Duncan. And to round out the whole body, mind, and spirit experience, they added the healing arts: Yoga, Feldenkrais, and the Alexander Technique.
These nine movement forms are incorporated into the Classic Nia class routines in 5 to 20 minute intervals lasting about an hour. They are designed to follow "The Body's Way" which is the science of observing the physical design of the body and using this as a map to dictate proper functions and use, while at the same time allowing flexibility. Recently, many Nia classes are being offered in 5 to 20 minute intervals, which allows students to incorporate the Nia Technique into their lives throughout the day.
