Official Mother's Day is here and gone, but Mother's Day is every day, especially for my mom and me. Summertime birthdays ignite warm memories on sandy beaches, and this picture captures a day just like that. Spending a day at the Jersey Shore for our birthdays over ten years ago, we decided to pose for this picture that speaks a thousand words from my heart.
The meaning of this image changes for me each Mother's Day. When I gaze at this picture now, it makes me think of washing away the tension within the intricacies of the mother-daughter relationship. As spring changes to summer, it allows me to experience growth and renewal. The nature of intimate relationships can bud and bring new possibilities.
When the summer day's grow shorter, we become more appreciative of the remaining light. As the colors fade and go dark, it is a reminder of life and the richness that is there gradually fades with age and experience.
May the familiar presence of salty air, our shared favorite sandwich on the beach, long walks on the water, and our conversations bring us together in this very important, one-of-a-kind relationship.
